HDD Control is a fake optimization tool that should not be confused with the legitimate software that bears the same name. HDD Control is advertised as a product that can protect the computer user's data, but, in reality, HDD Control is nothing more than a fraudulent and useless optimization tool. HDD Control will enter a computer system via deceptive internet downloads or vulnerability exploiting Trojans. Once inside a system, HDD Control will claim to detect numerous malware that can only be removed with the purchase of its "full version". The frequent security alerts and pop-up warnings displayed by HDD Control are all fake and users should never waste their money on the useless HDD Control. HDD Control is another member of the FakeSysDef family.

HDD Control operates similarly to its numerous family members which include rogues such as System Defragmenter, Ultra Defragger, Win HDD, Win Defrag, Win Defragmenter, Disk Doctor, Hard Drive Diagnostic, HDD Diagnostic, HDD Plus, HDD Repair, HDD Rescue, Smart HDD, Defragmenter, HDD Tools, Disk Repair, Windows Optimization Center, Scanner, HDD Low, Hdd Fix, PUP.PC Health Kit.
