Quick Mac Booster

Quick Mac Booster (PUP.MacOS.QuickMacBooster) is a malicious application designed to persuade users that their computer needs a performance improvement. It is classified as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) as it sneaks into Mac systems unnoticed and without the user's consent, typically bundled within freeware. Quick Mac Booster is also a scareware type of threat as it generates fake scan reports that list dozens of non-existing performance and security issues with the final purpose of tricking the user into purchasing a paid version of the app.

In order to look convincing, Quick Mac Booster displays immense improvement potential in all scanned areas, all highlighted in red and having countless issues that need to be fixed immediately. The rogue system optimizer also fetches the version of the operating system, the amount of RAM, and the type of the central processing unit (CPU), again in an effort to look credible. In addition to that, an audio alert saying "Scan has completed. Warning! Issues have been detected that need your immediate attention. Click on 'Clean Now' to fix these issues." comes at the end of each scan. If the user tries to close the main window, Quick Mac Booster displays one more threatening alert named "Before you exit," which again points out the "detected" issues and urges the user to buy the licensed copy.

Other potentially dangerous features of Quick Mac Booster include its capability to hijack the user's browser and redirect searches. As the app also has a mechanism to ensure its persistence, removing the PUP requires deleting all its files and folders.
