Infosec researchers continue to confirm the lasting popularity of the STOP/Djvu Ransomware family among cybercriminals. Indeed, hackers are releasing more variants belonging to the STOP/Djvu family and the Mmvb Ransomware threat is just such an example. Although Mmvb doesn't deviate much from the established STOP/Djvu behavior, its impact on the breached devices could be devastating.

When activated, the threat will target numerous file types and lock them with a strong cryptographic algorithm. Victims will suddenly find themselves unable to access any of their documents, archives, databases, images, audio and video files, etc. The goal of the attackers is to then extort the affected users for money, in exchange for sending them the necessary decryption keys.

All locked files will be marked by having '.mmvb' attached to their original names. Victims also will notice the appearance of a text file named '_readme.txt' on the infected device. Two email addresses can be found in the ransom-demanding message - 'support@bestyourmail.ch' and 'datarestorehelp@airmail.cc.'
