Vista Security Plus 2013
We've received reports of a large number of malware being released towards the end of 2012 with characteristics similar to malware in the FakeRean (or Braviax) family of malware. It seems that these fake security programs follow similar naming patterns, including the characteristic use of the string '2013' appended to the end of each rogue security application's name. Vista Security Plus 2013 is just one of the many variants in these kinds of fake security programs. Vista Security Plus 2013 is designed to attack computers with the Windows Vista operating system; Vista Security Plus 2013 is installed with a Trojan that detects the victim's operating system and then installs a Braviax variant corresponding to the victim's computer. For example, if the infected computer were using Windows 7 instead of Windows Vista, then Win 7 Security Plus 2013 would be installed instead of Vista Security Plus 2013. It is important to note that, despite the slight changes in names from one clone of Vista Security Plus 2013 to another, these are all essentially the same rogue security program with slight cosmetic variations.
Vista Security Plus 2013 makes the victim's computer perform poorly. The most visible symptom of a Vista Security Plus 2013 infection is the appearance of constant, multiple, alarming error messages indicating a severe malware infection on the victim's computer. Vista Security Plus 2013 has also been known to interfere with real security software and to cause browser redirects and block access to files and folders on the infected computer.
Like most bogus security applications, Vista Security Plus 2013 tries to induce its victims to believe that their computer is severely infected with malware. Then, passing itself off as a real security program, Vista Security Plus 2013 will try to convince the victim that Vista Security Plus 2013 is necessary to remove these nonexistent infections by 'upgrading' to an expensive, full version of Vista Security Plus 2013. However, since neither its free or 'full' version have any way of detecting or removing malware, ESG security researchers strongly advise computer users to refrain from paying for Vista Security Plus 2013 or following any of this bogus security application's instructions. Instead, Vista Security Plus 2013 should be removed with a real, legitimate anti-malware application.
Among the numerous clones of Vista Security Plus 2013 are Antivirus 2008, Windows Antivirus 2008, Vista Antivirus 2008, Antivirus Pro 2009, AntiSpy Safeguard, ThinkPoint, Spyware Protection 2010, Internet Antivirus 2011, Palladium Pro, XP Anti-Virus 2011, CleanThis, PC Clean Pro, XP Home Security 2012, Windows Clear Problems, XP Security 2012, Antivirus PRO 2015.
