Root Ransomware

Root Ransomware, another threat from the Dharma family of malware, has been injected in to the mix of ransomware to perform virtually the same malicious actions as many ransomware threats as of late. The major difference between the Root Ransomware and other recent threats from the Dharma Ransomware family is that it attaches its encrypted files with the ".root" file extension; hence its name.

Upon infection of Root Ransomware, many files on the infected system will be found and encrypted by Root Ransomware where they are no longer accessible. Once the encryption process has commenced, the user may notice a prompt screen of the Root Ransomware threat displaying a ransom note where it gives instructions for decrypting the files, which will include the computer user paying a substantial fee. It is highly recommended that victims of Root Ransomware do not pay the fee but instead eliminate Root Ransomware from their system using an antimalware resource.

Once Root Ransomware is removed, the user may then utilize a recent backup of their PC to restore specific files that remain encrypted.
