Threat Database Ransomware Solo Ransomware

Solo Ransomware

The Solo Ransomware is a hurtful threat designed specifically to lock the data of its victims. Like most malware of this type, the encryption routine utilized by the threat is strong enough to prevent the impacted users or organizations from restoring their data without assistance from the attackers, mainly the needed decryption keys. Analysis of the Solo Ransomware has revealed that the threat belongs to the VoidCrypt malware family.

The Solo Ransomware modifies the original names of the files it encrypts. The threat will first generate an ID string for the specific victims. Next, it will append the 'decryptionfiles@gmail.com' email address. Finally, victims will notice that all affected files now have the '.solo' file extension. A ransom note with the demands will be dropped onto the infected systems as a text file named 'unlock-info.txt.'

Opening the file and reading the cybercriminals' message reveals that the attackers will only accept ransom payments in Bitcoin. Furthermore, the price of the ransom will supposedly be based on the time it takes victims to initiate communication with the hackers. A secondary email at 'ecryptionfiles@protonmail.com' is mentioned in the note. Apparently, the attackers also are willing to decrypt one file for free. However, the chosen file must not contain any important information and should not exceed 1MB.
