Threat Database Adware MultiProject

MultiProject

MultiProject is a dubious application that tries to enter users' Mac systems unnoticed and monetize its presence there through intrusive methods. The application is capable of functioning as both adware and a browser hijacker. It also is classified as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) due to the questionable distribution methods it employs.

Users should always pay attention when installing applications from less familiar sources or risk having intruder applications deployed on their computers or devices. For example, two of the tactics most commonly used by PUPs are bundling and fake software installers. Other PUPs to be on the lookout for include SmartSearchQuest, AtlantaSearch and AssistiveMode.

The advertisements generated by MultiProject should not be approached carelessly. Users who engage with them risk being redirected to various online tactics, sites trying to obtain private information through phishing schemes, or other shady pages. Meanwhile, MultiProject also will take control over the user's Web browser and force it to open a promoted address continuously. To achieve their goal, these browser hijacker applications affect the homepage, new tab page, and the default search engine settings.

Having PUPs installed on your Mac also could mean that your browsing activities are being tracked. Indeed, PUPs are notorious for collecting various data, including device details (IP address, geolocation, etc.), all conducted searches, clicked URLs and visited websites.
