Threat Database Adware ComputingInteractive

ComputingInteractive

Mac users have another invasive application to worry about. Named ComputingInteractive, this adware has been classified as another addition to the AdLoad adware family, that continues to expand. These applications rarely focus on useful features and instead are more interested in monetizing their presence on users' Mac devices. In most cases, they do so via annoying ad campaigns. It also should be noted that ComputingInteractive also could be considered a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program), due to the questionable methods involved in its distribution.

Adware applications will generate various suspicious advertisements on the affected devices. The advertisements could appear in various forms - pop-ups, banners, surveys, and in-text links, and could even be injected into unrelated websites, as an attempt to appear more legitimate. Furthermore, they may utilize clickbait or social-engineering tactics to lure users into interacting with them. The advertisements should not be trusted, as they could initiate unwanted redirects, promote hoax websites, or present users with offers for more PUPs masquerading as seemingly real applications.

Another functionality often observed in adware applications is data-tracking. Users allowing such programs to stay on their Macs risk having their browsing history, search history, IP address, device type, browser type, geolocations, and various other details being exfiltrated to a server under the control of the PUP's operators.
