The Book Source is promoted on software deployment platforms as a free-to-use tool that can find eBooks, comics, and PDFs that you do not need to pay for to read and download. The Book Source application may be appealing to users that require access to many eBooks such as students, teachers, scientists and engineers. The Book Source application is published under the GNU Freeware license, and you may find it in the company of programs like SlickSignet and Software Refresher. Security authorities alert that the Book Source application may be free-to-use, but it comes with advertisements that may include coupons, discounts and offers from certified technical support agencies. Reports suggest that the Book Source might modify your Windows Registry to run as a startup service and show fake 'Windows Activation' messages. Moreover, the fake 'Windows Activation' messages from Book Source are related to the 888-479-3649 phone number that is not operated by a legitimate computer support agency.

The Book Source application may edit your bookmarks collection across Google Chrome, Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, and add links to sites like Openculture.com, Gutenberg.org and Manybooks.net. Book Source may appear as an icon in your system tray area and show notifications about new eBooks that are available for download, and redirect you to suspicious sites. The activity of the Book Source application provides cause for security authorities to label it is a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP), which is not a good idea to install. The Book Source program may use the Windows Messenger Service to show fake 'Windows Activation' pop-ups and direct you to con artist that may pose as employees of the Microsoft Corp. and demand that you pay up to $300 for a license. You might conclude that the Book Source program is not worth keeping and want to use a trusted anti-malware application to eradicate it and save yourself some troubles.
