Access Ransomware

The Access Ransomware uses a strong encryption routine to lock nearly all of its victims' files. Due to the military-grade cryptographic algorithm utilized by the threat, recovery of the impacted data without the proper decryption keys is considered to be practically impossible. In the vast majority of cases, ransomware attacks are financially motivated, with the attackers trying to extort hefty ransom payments from the affected users or corporate entities. The Access Ransomware is not an exception.

Cybersecurity experts have confirmed that the threat is a variant from the STOP/DjvuRansomware family and, as such, it follows the typical behavior associated with this malware strain. Indeed, the threat marks all locked files by appending a new file extension to their original names. Victims will notice that their files now carry '.access' as file extensions. In addition, the ransom note with instructions from Access Ransomware's operators will be delivered to the infected systems as a text file named '_readme.txt.'

The ransom-demanding message contains the usual details found in the STOP/Djvu malware threats. The attackers state that they want to be paid a ransom of $980, but victims who initiate contact within the first 72 hours will supposedly have to pay 50% less. Victims also are provided with an option to send 1 encrypted file to be unlocked for free. Two email addresses - 'gorentos@bitmessage.ch' and 'gorentos2@firemail.cc,' as well as a Telegram account at '@datarestore' can be used for communication purposes. However, users should keep in mind that any communication with cybercriminals is inherently risky and could lead to additional privacy or security issues.
