Youtubecenter.net is another untrustworthy website seeking to take advantage of its visitors. The site operates similarly to the countless other rogue pages that exploit the legitimate browser push notifications feature to generate revenue for their operators. Still, users should be warned that some rogue websites can show different, fake scenarios or tactics, based on factors, such as the visitor's IP address, geolocation, etc.
When infosec researchers examined Youtubecenter.net, they failed to notice any content even remotely related to the popular YouTube video platform. Instead, they were greeted by misleading messages urging them to pass a CAPTCHA check. Indeed, Youtubecenter.net displayed an image of a robot accompanied by a message, such as:
'Click Allow if you are not a robot'
Users who believe the site's instructions will be subscribed to the page's notifications the moment they click on the displayed button. Afterward, Youtubecneter.net will be able to take advantage of the granted browser permissions to deliver unwanted advertisements to the device. The advertisements may take various forms (pop-ups, banners, notifications) and could even begin to interfere with the content on the websites visited by the users. The advertisements themselves are likely to promote additional unsafe destinations, intrusive PUPs (potentially Unwanted Programs), shady adult websites, etc.
