WheelInstant

The WheelInstant application is another rogue software product that is being spread through underhanded distribution methods. Like most PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs), the application is likely to be hiding inside suspicious software bundles, outright fake installers/updates or offered for download from deceptive websites. It should be noted that WheelInstant is part of the AdLoad adware family and its primary targets are Mac users.

If successfully installed on the Mac, the application will begin generating revenue for its operators, by running an annoying ad campaign. The unwanted advertisements are likely to have a significant impact on the user experience on the device. More importantly, advertisements related to such unproven sources are typically used for the promotion of questionable destinations. Indeed, users could encounter advertisements for sites with fake giveaways, phishing portals, untrustworthy adult pages and more.

The risks posed by having PUPs on your Mac do not stop there. These invasive applications are notorious for spying on users' browsing activities. Information including the entire browsing and search histories could be packaged and exfiltrated to a remote server. Some PUPs even harvest numerous device details or try to extract account credentials and banking information from the user's browser.
