Threat Database Rogue Websites 'Walmart Loyalty Program' Scam

'Walmart Loyalty Program' Scam

Cybersecurity experts warn users about the possibility of encountering deceptive websites running survey scams under the guise of reward programs or giveaways from well-known companies. One such scam is the 'Walmart Loyalty Program,' which claims that people have been selected to participate in a survey for a chance to win a prize. However, this is nothing more than an elaborate ruse with no real prizes available. Thus, the best course of action is to ignore the 'Walmart Loyalty Program' scam entirely.

Fake Promises Of Expensive Rewards

Scammers behind this fake 'Walmart Loyalty Program' try to deceive visitors into believing that if they answer a few questions, they will win an enticing prize, such as an iPad Pro. The scammers allege that ten people are randomly chosen to receive various prizes every Thursday. The deceptive page displays a countdown timer to further pressure people into acting quickly without thinking about the details too much.

To make its completely fabricated claims appear more legitimate, the scam website includes reviews supposedly left by users who have won something after answering questions on the page. Once the visitor has answered all of the provided questions and selected the 'right' box, a pop-up message appears informing them that they've won the promised iPad Pro (or other prizes). To receive the reward, users are taken to a different website, described as belonging to 'certified distributors.' The opened page requires personal information, such as the user's name, email address, phone number, home address, city, state, and zip code. It may also require credit card details or demand that they transfer $1 to the scammers under the guise of a bogus fee.

Avoiding Phishing Scams

Phishing scams are a form of fraud designed to extract money and sensitive information from unsuspecting victims. These scams often disguise themselves as legitimate surveys or offers from well-known companies, such as Walmart. To protect yourself from these scams, it is vital to be aware of the warning signs - double-check website links in emails, avoid visiting suspicious websites, refuse notifications from unknown pages, and always download applications from official sources. If something seems too good to be true, it likely is - so trust your instincts and stay vigilant!
