Threat Database Mac Malware UnlimitedPixel

UnlimitedPixel

The UnlimitedPixel application has been classified by infosec researchers as another intrusive adware. It tries to sneak its installation onto Mac devices without attracting the user's attention. Once deployed on the system, UnlimitedPixel will start monetizing its presence there via an annoying advertising campaign.

The user experience on the affected device will take an almost immediate hit. However, more importantly, the shown ads could be promoting untrustworthy destinations, such as hoax websites, fake giveaways, phishing schemes, shady adult-oriented platforms and many others. Interacting with the advertisements could trigger forced redirects that may lead to exactly such deceptive pages.

Users also should be aware that most adware applications and other PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) are capable of data harvesting. The intrusive applications may spy on the browsing activities on the system by accessing the search history, browsing history and clicked URLs. In addition, the operators of the PUP also may be gathering numerous device details.
