Threat Database Mac Malware StatefulFirewall

StatefulFirewall

StatefulFirewall is a dubious program targeting Mac users. This deceptive browser extension may try to present itself as a useful addition but, as users will quickly realize after installing it, StatefulFirewall is little more than another PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program). These applications are typically distributed via underhanded methods, including shady software bundles and even completely fake installers/updaters.

PUPs usually carry adware or browser hijacker capabilities. This means that while present on the user's device, these applications may interfere with the typical operations of their Web browser or cause the frequent appearance of questionable advertisements. Browser hijackers usually modify the homepage, new tab page, and default search engine of the targeted browser. Users will then experience redirects to a promoted or sponsored page that, in most cases, belongs to a fake search engine.

Dubious applications, such as StatefulFirewall are often observed spying on users' browsing activities by collecting their browsing history, search history, clicked URLs and more. The harvested information often includes device details as well - IP addresses, geolocation, device type, browser type and more. Certain PUPs also may try to compromise sensitive information, such as account credentials or banking info that they will extract from browsers' autofill data.
