Threat Database Adware SprintSolution

SprintSolution

The goal of SprintSolution is to sneak itself onto users' Mac computers and then monetize its presence there via several intrusive actions. Indeed, the application is equipped with both adware and browser hijacker capabilities. Typically, users are extremely unlikely to download and install such applications knowingly. That is why SprintSolution is being spread via questionable distribution techniques, justifying its classification as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program).

The adware part of SprintSolution will be responsible for delivering numerous annoying advertisements to the compromised device. The advertisements may appear as pop-ups, banners, in-text links and more. They could even start to overlay the currently opened websites or be injected into unrelated pages. Interacting with advertisements generated by such dubious sources is risky. Users could be redirected to untrustworthy sites running online tactics, phishing schemes, shady betting platforms, etc.

At the same time, SprintSolution will assume control over the Web browsers installed on the Mac. The application will target the homepage, new tab page, and the default search engine settings specifically. All three will be set to now open a promoted Web address, usually one belonging to a fake search engine. Fake engines do not produce results on their own. They may redirect the user's search to a legitimate engine, such as Yahoo, Google or Bing. Another possibility is to start a redirect chain going through several dubious search engines. In this case, users could be presented with low-quality results filled with sponsored ad links.

PUPs also are infamous for having data-tracking capabilities. The intruder applications may be spying on the users' browsing activities and transmitting information such as the entire browsing history, search history, clicked URLs, IP addresses, geolocation and more, to their operators actively.
