EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecard
EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards are assessment reports for different malware threats which have been collected and analyzed by our research team. EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards evaluate and rank threats using several metrics including real-world and potential risk factors, trends, frequency, prevalence, and persistence. EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards are updated regularly based on our research data and metrics and are useful for a wide range of computer users, from end users seeking solutions to remove malware from their systems to security experts analyzing threats.
EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards display a variety of useful information, including:
Ranking: The ranking of a particular threat in EnigmaSoft’s Threat Database.
Severity Level: The determined severity level of an object, represented numerically, based on our risk modeling process and research, as explained in our Threat Assessment Criteria.
Infected Computers: The number of confirmed and suspected cases of a particular threat detected on infected computers as reported by SpyHunter.

The Sogou Virus is not a virus but a browser hijacker, also known as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program). The Sogou Virus is commonly distributed with the aid of other Trojans and has been involved in attacks on computers located in China. The Sogou Virus may often enter a computer without the computer user's authorization, makes unauthorized changes to the infected computer's settings and takes over the infected computer's Web browser. The Sogou Virus changes the victim's homepage, replacing it with 123.sogou.com, a low quality search engine that is actually used to generate advertising revenue and tempt computer users into clicking on affiliate marketing links.

Do not Help a Cybercriminal to Have Illicit Gain
PC security researchers consider the Sogou Virus as a PUP because the Sogou Virus gains access to the infected computer and then make changes to the affected computer's settings. The main payload of the Sogou Virus attack is to cause browser redirects in order to boost certain websites' traffic artificially. These traffic gains may then be turned into advertising revenue and other sources of profit. The Sogou Virus also causes the appearance of pop-up advertisements and may interfere with the normal usage of the infected computer. One of the main dangers of the Sogou Virus is that the Sogou Virus collects information about its victim's browser habits and online history. This information may then be sold to marketers or used to deliver advertisements to the infected computer. Because of this and the many other dangerous symptoms associated with the Sogou Virus, ESG security researchers strongly advise computer users to remove this threat from the infected computer.
It is Important to Remove the Sogou Virus Infection at Once
The first step in removing the Sogou Virus is uninstalling the PUP responsible for its redirects. This PUP usually takes the form of a browser extension or toolbar. Once all suspicious programs have been uninstalled, it is important to use a reliable anti-malware program to scan the infected computer in order to ensure that the Sogou Virus has not exposed the infected computer to malware. Removing the Sogou Virus and any components associated with the Sogou Virus may not always revert the affected Web browser's settings to normal. In many cases, it will be necessary for the computer user to undo any unwanted changes to the affected Web browser.
