Scanandclean.xyz Description

Type: Adware

The Scanandclean.xyz website has not been put on the Internet to provide its visitors with any meaningful content or useful service. No, this rogue Web page exists to propagate various online tactics solely. In fact, cybersecurity researchers have confirmed that the page propagates variants of the 'Your PC is infected with 5 viruses!' and 'Your Windows 10 is infected with viruses' scams.

Both schemes consist of showing numerous fake alerts and misleading messages to users in an attempt to scare them into installing a promoted application or buying a license for a legitimate security solution. To make the false security warnings seem more urgent and serious, the rogue website will pretend as if they are being issued by a reputable source such as Norton, McAfee or Microsoft. Of course, neither of the three companies has any connection to the hoax websites, nor do they resort to such underhanded tactics in the promotion of their products. Keep in mind that Scanandclean.xyz also may generate a pop-up window with the results of a supposed threat scan that has detected multiple malware threats on the user's device. This is also completely fake, as no website can perform security scans on its own.

It also is important to note that untrustworthy sites such as Scanadnclean.xyz may promote real products. In these cases, the likely goal of the con artists is to earn illegitimate commission fees, based on each purchase conducted through their website. Users interested in trying the advertised product should instead download or purchase it from a reputable application store and not some random website they encountered while browsing.
