Threat Database Ransomware Roblox Ransomware

Roblox Ransomware

Roblox Ransomware is equipped with a strong encryption routine that will leave the data of its victims in an unusable state. This is the main characteristic of any ransomware threat as the attackers typically use the locked data as a way to extort money from the affected users or organizations. A wide range of files such as documents, images, photos, PDFs, archives, databases, and many more could be impacted by the threat. Analysis of Roblox Ransomware has confirmed that the threat is a variant of the previously identified Jigsaw Ransomware.

When Roblox Ransomware encrypts a file, it will also append a new extension to that file's original name. Indeed, the files on the infected computer systems will now carry the '.Encrypted_Roblox@mail.com' email address as part of their names. Victims will be left with a ransom note displayed in a pop-up window.

Reading the instructions left by the threat could leave a lot of users puzzled. Instead, of asking for money as the vast majority of ransomware, the threat actors appear to be pursuing different goals. According to the ransom note, victims are supposed to download and install 'roblox,' presumably the highly popular video game platform. If they do so within 24 hours, the attackers will supposedly provide the affected users with the decryption key necessary for the restoration of the locked files. The pop-up window shows a countdown timer displaying the remaining time.
