QuicklookPI

QuicklookPI is an intrusive adware application that targets Mac users. Adware applications are created specifically for the purpose of delivering unwanted and questionable advertisements to users' devices. These applications are very rarely installed intentionally, as typically they lack any useful features, or if they do have some, they are barely functional. Instead, adware, browser hijackers, and other invasive programs are distributed through underhanded methods, such as software bundles or fake installers/updates. The reliance on such deceptive behavior classifies them as PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs).

The presence of adware, such as QuicklookPI could result in unwanted redirects, pop-ups, banners and other advertising materials. The advertisements could even start overlaying the legitimate content on the sites visited by users. More importantly, the shown advertisements could be promoting untrustworthy destinations, including fake giveaways, technical support tactics, phishing schemes, shady adult pages, dubious online betting/gambling platforms, etc.

However, PUPs are often equipped with additional, intrusive capabilities. Many PUPs have been observed spying on users' browsing activities by continuously collecting and transmitting their browsing history, search history, clicked URLs, and more. Some PUPs could even try to compromise sensitive account credentials or banking info by accessing the browser's autofill data.
