Threat Database Adware ProcesserLog

ProcesserLog

ProcesserLog is a dubious application that is spreading to Mac users through manipulative and deceptive methods. The reliance on such underhanded tactics classifies ProcesserLog as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program). The two most common types of PUPs are adware that delivers intrusive advertisement materials and browser hijackers used to promote fake search engines through illegitimate means. ProcesserLog combines both functionalities.

When installed on a Mac, the application will waste no time monetizing its presence. It will begin to generate questionable advertising materials that could impact the user experience on the device severely. Not only could the advertisements start to cover the legitimate content opened by the user but, if clicked, they could lead to unsafe phishing pages or domains promoting additional PUPs. At the same time, the browser hijacker functionality will take over certain browser settings - mainly the homepage, new tab page and the default search engine. All of them will be set to open the address of a dubious search engine. Such engines provide unreliable results that could be littered with third-party advertisements.

The biggest red flag associated with having PUPs present on your Mac is the possibility of having your browsing habits tracked, packaged, and then uploaded to a remote server. The operators of the specific PUP could receive the user's entire browsing history, conducted searches and clicked URLs. Device details such as the IP address, geolocation, and ISP (Internet Service Provider) could also be among the exfiltrated data.
