PlusLift

PlusLift has been classified as yet another invasive PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) that seeks to sneak its way onto users' Mac devices. Typically, such dubious applications are spread via software bundles, fake installers, deceptive websites and other similarly questionable methods. The goal is for users to not realize that the PUP will be installed on their computers.

If it has been successfully deployed on the Mac, PlusLift is likely to perform various, unwanted activities. The main focus of the application appears to be the delivery of annoying advertisements, a common characteristic associated with adware. The generated advertisements could severely impact the user experience on the Mac, but, more importantly, they could be used as promotional materials for deceptive or even unsafe websites. Users could see advertisements for pages running various phishing tactics, technical support schemes, fake giveaways, etc.

However, many PUPs carry several different, intrusive functionalities. Some also could act as browser hijackers, taking over the user's browser and causing frequent redirects to a promoted website. While present on the device, the PUP also may attempt to collect numerous user data - browsing history, search history, clicked URLs, account credentials, banking details, IP address, geolocation and more.
