Threat Database Mac Malware PlanDevelopment

PlanDevelopment

PlanDevelopment is another intrusive application belonging to the AdLoad adware family. The application displays the typical characteristics of the AdLoad family, such as targeting Mac users and possessing adware capabilities. Typically, the goal of adware operators is to generate profits via the delivery of unwanted advertisements to the systems on which the application is installed.

Affected users are likely to be presented with numerous advertisements for questionable and untrustworthy destinations, which may include unsafe websites, PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) promoted as useful applications or even malware threats. At the same time, interacting with the advertisements could lead to the activation of redirects to more dubious websites.

PUPs, adware, and browser hijackers are often equipped with data-tracking routines as well. While installed on the device, these programs could be spying on users' browsing activities. Various device details also could be harvested, packaged and transmitted to a remote server. However, the biggest privacy and security risk that may be caused by PUPs, involves extracting account credentials, banking details, and payment information that have been saved as a browser's autofill data.
