As a deceptive website dedicated to delivering questionable content to its visitors, People-around.me achieves its goals via a popular browser-based scheme. All pages of this type - Blowislandnext.top, Icewaterhous.xyz, and Get-positive.net, to name a few, operate in a virtually identical manner. They display misleading alerts or warning messages to visitors and try to lure them into clicking the shown 'Allow' button. All those that follow the instructions of the con page will unknowingly be subscribed to its push notification services.
People-around.me is no different. It pretends that to access the full content on the site, users need to click the 'Allow' button. Of course, there is no meaningful content at all. Instead, the deceitful page will receive the required browser permissions to start running an intrusive ad campaign.
Users will be subjected to various unwanted advertisements that may employ similar social-engineering tactics. Engaging with the advertisements could take users to more online tactics, unsafe sites spreading PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs), or other shady pages. In fact, landing on People-around.me could have been caused by a PUP in the first place. If you notice that such misleading sites are appearing far too frequently, it may be time to scan your device with a reputable security solution for potential intruder applications that might be lurking on it.
