Oopu Ransomware

The Oopu Ransomware is another threatening variant belonging to the STOP/Djvu malware family. Even though it is mostly identical to all the other variants of this family, the Oopu Ransomware still possesses a significant capacity to cause damage. When activated on the targeted computers, the threat will scan the data stored there and encrypt all targeted file types with a strong cryptographic algorithm. Afterward, victims will discover that they are no longer able to open or use the affected files.

All files impacted by the threat's actions will have '.oopu' attached to their original names as a new file extension. Following the established STOP/Djvu behavior, victims also will be left with a ransom note contained inside a text file named '_readme.txt.' According to the ransom-demanding message, victims will need to pay a ransom of $980 if they want to receive the decryption keys necessary for the restoration of the data. The cybercriminals offer a 50% discount to all victims who establish contact within the first 72 hours. Affected users are directed towards messaging the 'support@bestyourmail.ch' and 'datarestorehelp@airmail.cc' email addresses. Of course, contacting and communicating with cybercriminals is extremely risky inherently and should be avoided if possible.
