Threat Database Ransomware Non Ransomware

Non Ransomware

Cybercriminals are using a new malware variant created from the infamous Phobos Ransomware threat. This new variant is being tracked by infosec researchers as the Non Ransomware. It has retained all of the destructive capabilities found in the other variants of the Phobos Ransomware family. As such, any infected system will be subjected to data encryption that will leave most of the files stored there in an unusable state. Affected users will notice that all of the locked files now have drastically modified names. The threat will add an ID string, an email address (noname@mailc.net), and finally '.Non' as a new extension. Another change made to the system will be the creation of two files named 'info.hta' and 'info.txt.' These files are tasked with the delivery of two different ransom notes.

The text file contains a brief message from the attackers. Victims are simply told to establish contact with the cybercriminals via two email addresses - 'noname@mailc.net' and 'noname@mailas.com.' The proper ransom note is delivered in a pop-up window generated from the .tha file. It clarifies that the attackers will only accept payments made using the Bitcoin cryptocurrency. In addition, the exact amount of the demanded ransom will apparently depend on the time that takes victims to initiate communication. The note also reveals that affected users can send up to 5 files that are less than 4MB in total size to be unlocked for free.

The message shown in a pop-up window is:

'All your files have been encrypted!
