Threat Database Ransomware Netlock Ransomware

Netlock Ransomware

The Netlock Ransomware threat belongs to the MedusaLocker malware family. Even though it is only another variant from the Medusa Locker Ransomware lineage, the threat retains the destructive potential of this threatening strain and its intrusive features can leave victims unable to access their own data. Ransomware threats typically carry a strong cryptographic algorithm with which they encrypt documents, PDfs, photos, archives, databases and many other file types. When the Netlock Ransomware encrypts a file, it appends '.netlock' to that file's original name. The threat also will drop a lengthy ransom note on the infected device. The hackers' instructions will be contained in a file named 'how_to_back_files.html.'

According to the threat actors' message, the Netlock Ransowmare uses a combination of the RSA and AES algorithms as part of its encryption process. The note also reveals that the operators of the threat use double extortion tactics. Apart from locking the data of their victims, the hackers also claim to have collected important and valuable information that is then stored on their servers. If the affected organizations decide not to pay the demanded ransom, the collected data could be offered for sale to any interested parties or simply published for free to the public.

Netlock Ransomware's message states that victims can contact the attackers by visiting their dedicated website hosted on the TOR network Alternatively, two email addresses could serve as communication channels - 'ithelp08@decorous.cyou' and 'ithelp08@wholeness.business.' The ransom note ends with a warning that waiting for more than 72 hours to initiate contact will result in a higher ransom price.
