Threat Database Ransomware MRN Ransomware

MRN Ransomware

The MRN Ransomware is one more variant created by using the notorious and threatening VoidCrypt malware as a basis. However, users should not interpret this fact as a signal that the MRN Ransomware is any less threatening. If activated on an infected computer, the threat is capable of encrypting nearly all of the victim's data. Affected users will not be able to open their documents, archives, database, PDFs and other essential file types.

Victims of the threat will notice that all encrypted files have had their original names changed drastically. Indeed, the threat will first add an ID string generated specifically for the victim. Next, it will place an email address under the control of the attackers - 'virus_monster@tutanota.com,' in this case. Finally, each locked file will have '.MRN' appended as a new file extension.

The ransom note of the threat will be delivered to the breached system as a text file named 'unlock-info.txt.' The note reveals that the cybercriminals will only accept ransom payments made using the Bitcoin cryptocurrency. As for the exact amount of the ransom, apparently, it will be based on how fast victims contact them. The main email is the one found in the names of the encrypted files, while a secondary address at 'Unlocker_support@protonmail.com' is supposed to be used in case users do not receive any response within 24 hours.

The full set of instructions dropped by the MRN Ransomware is:
