MinimalEnergy

MinimalEnergy is a questionable application that may be trying to sneak its way onto users' Mac devices. Indeed, the application has been confirmed to use fake installers to spread itself. The involvement of such dubious methods in the distribution of MinimalEnergy classifies it as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program). As for its main functionality, it is more than likely that MinimalEnergy belongs to the adware-type applications designed to monetize their presence by running intrusive and annoying ad campaigns.

Having an adware application lurking on your computer or device will typically result in an incessant stream of incoming advertisements. Apart from disrupting any activities that the users might be doing at the time, the advertisements also are likely to be promoting untrustworthy or even unsafe sites, services or applications. Users could see promotions for hoax websites, fake giveaways, phishing or technical support schemes, additional PUPs and more.

At the same time, the PUP may be silently performing other unwanted actions in the background of the system. For example, PUPs are infamous for spying on users' browsing activities. However, these applications also may be collecting numerous device details or, in the more extreme cases, sensitive account information, banking and payment details, credit/debit card numbers, etc., from browsers' autofill data.
