Lol Ransomware

The Lol Ransomware targets the data of its victims and locks it using a strong encryption routine. Documents, pictures, photos, archives and many other file types will be rendered entirely unusable. Like most ransomware operations, the cybercriminals behind the Lol Ransomware also try to extort their victims for money. Besides encrypting the targeted file types, the threat also will append '.lol' to their names as a new file extension. A ransom note will be dropped on all impacted devices as a text file named 'Message.txt.'

The ransom note contains two identical messages - one in Russian and one in English. According to the note, Lol Ransomware uses a combination of AES and RSA cryptographic algorithms to encrypt its victim's data. The message states that the locked files can be restored by paying the hackers and receiving a decryptor program and the necessary decryption key. The ransom is set at $300, which must be transferred to the crypto-wallet address of the attackers in Bitcoins.
