Threat Database Adware LoginCheck

LoginCheck

LoginCheck is an intrusive application that tries to take advantage of Mac users. It is classified as part AdLoad malware family and as such is equipped with numerous annoying functionalities. The main purpose of the application is to monetize its presence on the user's Mac by running an annoying ad campaign. Indeed, LoginCheck is yet another adware.

Typically, applications such as LoginCheck are not distributed through the usual channels, as the chances of users willingly downloading and installing them are extremely low. Instead, the creators of these PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) rely heavily on underhanded tactics, such as software bundles or fake applications installers/updaters.

Once fully deployed on the Mac, LoginCheck could start to show its true colors. Depending on certain parameters, the exact behavior of the application could change. However, in general, LoginCheck will be responsible for a drastic increase in the advertisements encountered by the user. More importantly, the displayed advertisements could lead to questionable or outright unsafe destinations. Users also may be presented with offers to install additional PUPs disguised as seemingly legitimate applications.

While present on the system, most PUPs will also attempt to siphon out various user information. The acquired and transmitted data could include browsing information, device details, or even autofill data extracted from web browsers. In the latter case, the operators of the PUP may be able to obtain the user's account credentials, banking information, payment details or even credit/debit card numbers.
