Infosec researchers have identified another intrusive application. Tracked as LauncherRecord, the application belongs to the AdLoad malware family and is equipped with adware capabilities, meaning that its primary goal is to deliver unwanted advertisements on users' Mac systems.

The generated advertisements are typically for untrustworthy third-party websites where users could encounter various online tactics, phishing schemes, fake giveaways, etc. Users also may be presented with seemingly attractive offers for promoted software products. Unfortunately, far too often the application turns out to be another PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) with adware or browser hijacker capabilities. Even when the promoted application is a legitimate one, users should still avoid installing it. The fraudsters most likely are trying to earn illegitimate commission fees.

Another concern related to having a PUP present on the computer or device is that these programs are infamous for possessing data-tracking functionality. They may spy on the user's browsing habits, harvest numerous device details, or even attempt to extract banking and payment information saved in the Web browsers.
