Kuub Ransomware

All shady individuals are attempting to hop on the ‘ransomware’ train because file-locking Trojans are seen as a quick and easy way to generate some revenue on the back of unsuspecting online users. Most ransomware threats operate in a similar manner – the user systems get infected with the Trojan, which performs a scan immediately, which locates the files of interest, then the encryption process locks the targeted data, and finally, the threat drops a ransom note.

Propagation and Encryption

The Kuub Ransomware is one of the most recently uncovered data-encrypting Trojans, and it does not stray from the path explained previously. The Kuub Ransomware belongs to the wildly popular STOP Ransomware family. It is not clear what are the infection vectors that the attackers have employed in the propagation of the Kuub Ransomware. Some experts speculate that spam emails containing infected attachments, bogus application updates, and fake pirated variants of popular software may be among the propagation methods that the attackers have used. When the Kuub Ransomware infiltrates a host, it will scan it and soon after trigger the encryption process. Once this step is completed, you will notice that the Kuub Ransomware has appended a new extension to the locked files - ‘.kuub.’ This means that a file you had named ‘nocturnal-creatures.jpeg’ this file-locking Trojan will rename to ‘nocturnal-creatures.jpeg.kuub.’

The Ransom Note

The Kuub Ransomware leaves a ransom note on the user desktops. The note’s name is ‘_readme.txt.’ The message in the note states that the ransom fee is $490 in the shape of Bitcoin. However, the attackers warn that unless the ransom fee is paid within 72 hours, the price will double to $980. The authors of the Kuub Ransomware demand to be contacted via email - ‘gerentoshelp@firemail.cc’ and ‘gorentos@bitmessage.ch.’

You should ignore the demands of the cyber crooks responsible for the Kuub Ransomware. Nothing good can come out of attempting to bargain with such shady individuals. Instead, consider downloading and installing a legitimate anti-malware solution, which will help you remove the Kuub Ransomware safely from your system.
