Threat Database Ransomware Krlock Ransomware

Krlock Ransomware

The Krlock Ransomware is a variant from the MedusaLocker Ransomware family. Although the Krlock Ransomware doesn't exhibit any major deviations from the behavior and capabilities of the other variants from the MedusaLocker Ransomware family, the Krlock Ransomware's potential for destruction is massive. The threat employs an encryption process that can render a large set of filetypes unusable and inaccessible. The hackers will then extort their victims in exchange for the decryption key and tool necessary for the restoration of the data. Any file locked by the threat will have '.krlock' added to its original name as a new extension. Upon encrypting the victim's files completely, the Krlock Ransomware will generate a note-bearing file named 'Recovery_Instructions.html.'

Krlock Ransomware's Demands

The note reveals that the threat uses a combination of the RSA and AES cryptographic algorithms as part of its encryption process. More importantly, it warns that the hackers behind Krlock have been able to obtain sensitive information from the compromised machines. The data is being stored on a private server, and the crybercriminals threaten to either release it to the public or sell it to interested parties if their demands are not met.

To initiate contact with the hackers, affected users are told to visit a dedicated server hosted on the TOR network. If they are unable to open the site, users are left with sending a message to the two provided email addresses - 'diniaminius@winrof.com' and 'soterissylla@wyseil.com.' They can attach up to 3 encrypted files to the email that will supposedly be decrypted and returned. The note concludes with a warning that after 72 hours have passed, the price of the ransom will go up.
