Kcbu Ransomware

The Kcbu Ransomware is a threatening tool that, according to cybersecurity experts, carries a strong encryption routine. Infected systems will have the data stored on them encrypted and rendered unusable. The threat actors' goal is to extort money from the impacted users or organizations. At its core, the Kcbu Ransomware is a variant belonging to the infamous STOP/Djvu malware family. Victims of threats from this family should be warned that there is a high chance that additional, threatening payloads also were dropped on their devices. The STOP/Djvu operators have been observed to deploy threats such as the Vidar Stealer and the RedLine stealer.

The files affected by the threat will have '.kcbu' appended to their names. In addition, the malware will create a text file named '_readme.txt.' Inside the file is a ransom note with instructions from the attackers. According to their message, victims will have to pay a $980 ransom if they want to receive a decryption tool and the necessary decryption keys from the hackers. The note states that victims who contact the attackers - by messaging the support@fishmail.top or datarestorehelp@airmail.cc email addresses, within 72 hours of the Kcbu Ransomware infection will receive a 50% discount on the price of the ransom.
