Threat Database Mac Malware IntegerLocator

IntegerLocator

Mac users should be on the lookout for another intrusive application that might be trying to sneak itself onto their devices. Named IntegerLocator, this dubious program has been classified as adware belonging to the ever-growing AdLoad family. Adware applications may possess some functionality but their primary goal is to deliver various unwanted and untrustworthy advertisements to the devices they are installed on. It should be noted that many deceptive applications known as PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) try to hide their installation from the user's attention by being placed inside software bundles or outright fake installers.

However, once activated on the Mac, IntegerLocator's presence will become noticeable almost immediately. Adware applications are known for generating annoying advertisements that could be promoting hoax websites or other similarly shady destinations (phishing portals, suspicious adult-oriented platforms, fake giveaways, etc.) Users also may be presented with enticing offers for various software products. In most cases, the advertised application will be another PUP in disguise, but in the few cases when it is a real product, the likely goal of the con artists is to earn illegitimate commission fees.

Affected Mac users also have to worry about the possibility of IntegerLocators spying on their browsing activities or exfiltrating additional data from their devices. Such capabilities are common among PUPs, as the applications try to access the entire browsing history, search history and clicked URLs. Device details or even banking and payment details extracted from Web browsers' autofill data also could be packaged and uploaded to a remote server.
