ImagineReview

ImagineReview is yet another PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) leveraged against Mac users. It joins the countless other applications also designed to serve intrusive and unwanted advertisements to users. In addition to its adware functionality, ImagineReview also is equipped with browser hijacker capabilities. It should be noted that PUPs rarely wait for users to download them willingly. It is far more likely, that ImagineReview managed to sneak itself onto your computer via a deceptive distribution method, such as bundling or hiding inside a fake software installer/updater.

The advertisements generated by ImagineReview should be approached with caution. It is quite likely that clicking on any of them would trigger a forced redirect towards a dubious third-party website. Users may find themselves landing on misleading pages, phishing schemes trying to siphon any information entered into them, or domains spreading more PUPs. At the same time, ImagineReview will establish control over the Web browser. The homepage, new page tab, and the default search engine will be adjusted to open the fake search engine Safe Finder site via akamaihd.net. Fake engines cannot produce any results on their own, as they lack that functionality entirely. They will take the user's search query and redirect it to a legitimate engine, such as Yahoo, Bing or Google.

However, the biggest red flag about ImagineReview, is that it could be tracking the user's browsing activities and uploading the collected information to a remote server. This is a common aspect found in nearly all PUPs. The operators of the application might then try to sell the gathered data to interested third parties.
