Threat Database Adware HorizonLiving

HorizonLiving

HorizonLiving is a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP). It is heavily reliant on dubious distribution tactics to spread itself and get installed on users' Mac devices without being noticed. Some commonly encountered methods include shady software bundles where the intruder application is hidden under the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' options or outright fake software installers.

If HorizonLiving is successfully established on the Mac, it will proceed to activate its browser hijacker and adware functionalities. As a browser hijacker, the application is capable of modifying essential browser settings to promote a sponsored page. In this case, the promoted address is HorizonLiving Search, a fake search engine. The page will be set as the browser's new homepage and default search engine. Being classified as a fake engine means that HorizonLiving Search is incapable of producing any results on its own. Users will instead be shown search results taken from the legitimate Yahoo engine.

As for the adware part of HorizonLiving, it will be responsible for the delivery of unwanted and annoying advertisements to the system. Users may encounter pop-ups, in-text links, banners and more. Typically, the advertisements associated with such dubious sources promote questionable, con websites or try to convince users into downloading additional PUPs disguised as seemingly useful applications.
