Fedasot Ransomware

By GoldSparrow in Ransomware

The Fedasot Ransomware is a newly emerged data-locking Trojan, which upon further inspection was discovered to be from the STOP Ransomware family that has gained a fair bit of notoriety in 2018.

Malware experts speculate that Fedasot Ransomware is being spread by bogus updates, emails containing infected attachments, and pirated software, which gullible users would download. When the Fedasot Ransomware has sneaked into your system, it will begin scanning it for the files it is going to target. When located, these files will be encrypted and rendered useless swiftly. Fedasot Ransomware applies its extension after locking your files - '.fedasot,' which gave the name to this threat. If you had a photo on your computer named ' sunset-desktop.jpeg' initially, after going through encryption, it would be called 'sunset-desktop,jpeg.fedasot.' The next step of the attack is to drop a ransom note. The Fedasot Ransomware's note is called 'cc.txt.' In the note, as they usually do, the attackers promise that all the locked data is retrievable and claim that there is no other way to decrypt your data apart from paying them. To convince you that they are in possession of a decryption tool, the authors of the Fedasot Ransomware would offer you to decrypt one file for free and even have a video up showing the decryption process. The price set for unlocking your data is $980 but if you contact the creators of Fedasot Ransomware within 72 hours of the attack occurring you would receive 50% discount and be required to pay $490 instead. Two email addresses are given out – vengisto@firemail.cc and gorentos@bitmessage.ch. The attackers also provide a Telegram account where they can be contacted, which is '@datarestore.'

We would strongly recommend you to avoid talking with cyber crooks altogether. They will likely lie to you, and your files will remain encrypted even if you pay them the sum demanded. If you want to clear your PC of the Fedasot Ransomware, it would be best to install a reputable anti-virus tool and have it to wipe your system clean.
