Fastvery Ransomware
A new Phobos Ransomware variant has been identified by infosec researchers. The threat is named Fastvery Ransomware and its goal is to encrypt the data of its victims and then demand they pay a hefty ransom. It targets numerous file types - documents, archives, databases, photos, images, PDFs, etc., and renders them inaccessible and unusable.
In addition, as part of its encryption process, the Fastvery Ransomware also will modify the original names of the locked files significantly. The threat follows the naming pattern of the Phobos malware family - first, it appends a unique ID for the specific victim, then adds an email address controlled by the attackers (fastvery@veryfast.biz), and finally puts '.fastvery' as a new file extension. The malware will then deliver two ransom notes with instructions for the victims. One will be contained inside a newly-created text file named 'info.txt' while the other will be presented in a new pop-up window.
Fastvery Ransomware's Demands
The instructions delivered via the text file lack many crucial details. Instead, victims are simply told to contact the same 'fastvery@veryfast.biz' email address. If there is no answer within 24 hours, affected users should message the reserve email at '2fastvery@veryfast.biz.'
The proper ransom note will be displayed in the pop-up window. It states that the ransom must be paid using the Bitcoin cryptocurrency and the exact sum will depend on the time it takes the victims to establish contact with the attackers The note also mentions that users can send up to 5 files to be decrypted for free. However, the chosen files must not contain any valuable information and should not exceed a total size of 4MB. The ransom note concludes with several warnings.
The message delivered via the pop-up window is:
