Threat Database Browser Hijackers ExpertSearchModule

ExpertSearchModule

ExpertSearchModule is a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) that has been classified as part of the AdLoad adware family. As such, its main goal is to deliver intrusive and unwanted ads to the Mac systems it is present on, generating monetary gains for its operators in the process. ExpertSearchModule is being spread via deceptive means, such as hiding inside a fake Adobe Flash Player installer.

Mac users should note that alongside ExpertSearchModule, another PUP named Safe Finder is also going to be dropped onto their computers. Safe Finder is a notorious browser hijacker that modifies Web browsers' settings to promote fake or dubious search engines.

The ads generated by ExpertSearchModule, or any similar PUP, should be regarded as posing significant risks. By clicking on them, users could potentially be taken to suspicious or outright unsafe third-party websites. Among the destinations of the forced redirects, could be phishing pages that collect all entered information, pages proliferating various online tactics or domains spreading more PUPs.

Users should also avoid keeping PUPs on their devices, One nasty characteristic of these programs is that they may be equipped with data-harvesting routines. Various details about the browsing activities carried on the system may be accessed, stored in an archive file and then transmitted to a remote server.
