Threat Database Mac Malware ExpandedRotator

ExpandedRotator

ExpandedRotator is an adware application that is trying to infiltrate the computers and devices of users in the Apple ecosystem stealthily. It relies on deceptive distribution techniques such as bundling or hiding inside a fake software update to install itself without attracting the attention of the user. Once established, ExpandedRotator will begin to monetize its presence immediately through the generation of intrusive and unwanted advertising materials.

Users might start seeing an abnormal amount of redirects, pop-ups, banners, surveys and other advertisements. While ExpandedRotator cannot cause any harm to the user's computer directly the same cannot be said about the advertisements it delivers. The redirects to third-party websites could expose users to various tactics, including phishing pages or landing pages for technical support tactics. Furthermore, users could be taken to domains spreading additional PUPs or even compromised websites trying to download malware threats.

It is strongly recommended to remove any PUPs similar to ExpandedRotator from your computer as soon as you notice the first signs of their presence. The best method of getting rid of these PUPs is to perform a scan with a reputable anti-malware solution and then delete suspicious applications that are detected.
