EmergingZip

EmergingZip is an intrusive PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) that cybersecurity researchers have classified as belonging to the AdLoad adware family. Applications of this family are designed specifically to target Mac devices and then monetize their presence there via an unwanted ad campaign.

The advertisements generated by adware applications, such as EmergingZip should not be approached carelessly. Users must keep in mind that interacting with dubious advertisements could expose them to various security risks. Indeed, they can be redirected to hoax websites running phishing schemes or fake giveaways. Users also may be presented with seemingly enticing offers for applications that turn out to be more PUPs.

Apart from the annoying advertisements, adware applications also are typically known for having data-harvesting functions. While still installed on the Mac, these applications could try to collect various information about the user's browsing habits. The entire browsing history, search history and clicked URLs could be continuously transmitted to a remote server. Device details including the IP address, geolocation, device type, browser type, and many more also could be among the data targeted by the unwanted application.
