EfficientRecord

Cybersecurity researchers have identified another addition to the AdLoad adware family. The newly discovered application is named EfficientRecord and it follows closely the pattern associated with AdLoad applications. It aims to sneak its way inside users' Mac devices where it will begin to monetize its presence via an annoying ad campaign.

Users should never trust blindly advertisements delivered by unfamiliar sources. The advertisements are likely to promote questionable destinations where users could encounter phishing schemes, fake giveaways, shady online games or betting platforms, etc. The advertisements also could contain offers for additional intrusive PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) that may have adware, browser hijacker or even data-harvesting capabilities.

Another significant risk posed by applications such as EfficientRecord is that they are commonly known to collect various data. Users may have their browsing and search histories uploaded to a remote server. The applications also may gather numerous details about Mac systems, such as IP addresses, geolocation, OS type, browser type and more.
