DigitalPaper

Cybersecurity researchers have brought another intrusive application to light. According to their findings, the program distributed under the name DigitialPaper is another dubious PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Program) that attempts to sneak itself onto users' Mac devices. The goal of the application is to then monetize its presence on the system by delivering unwanted advertisements. Furthermore, this adware has been classified as being another addition to the constantly expanding AdLoad family.

Adware applications are typically capable of injecting advertisements into websites, as well as finding other ways to deliver them to the affected system. Apart from having a serious impact on the user experience on the device, these advertisements also promote suspicious destinations and websites. They also may cause forced redirects to hoax pages, phishing portals, shady adult-oriented platforms and more. The advertisements also could contain offers for additional PUPs presented as software products.

Users also should keep in mind that while present on the system, PUPs could be conducting other intrusive actions in the background. These annoying applications could be spying on the browsing activities carried out on the Mac by harvesting the browsing history, search history and clicked URLs. Additional data, including device details or even banking details extracted from users' Web browsers, also could be packaged and transmitted to the PUP's operators.
