Digital Info Adware

Digital Info is a Chrome browser extension that promises to help users gather digital information. However, upon installation, it quickly becomes evident that the application's true purpose is to serve annoying advertisements, possibly generating monetary gains for its operators. As a result, Digital Info has been classified as an adware application by infosec experts.

The application also can be considered a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program). After all, it is being distributed through deceptive and questionable methods. One example includes a dubious website claiming that one of the already installed browser extensions needs to be updated. If users agree, the page will instead deliver the Digitial Info adware.

In general, advertisements delivered by such unproven sources should not be trusted, either. Users may be presented with offers to download more PUPs or taken to shady third-party websites that may be running other online tactics, phishing schemes, fake giveaways, etc. Adware and PUPs in general also are known for having data-collecting routines. These intrusive applications may be spying on the user's browsing activities and transmitting the gathered information to its operators.
