Dietpuma.com is a fake search engine. Dietpuma.com has no legitimate search functions and receives most of its web traffic due to the actions of dangerous browser hijackers. In fact, the Dietpuma.com website itself is pretty harmless – with its spamming functions not being implemented like it's the case with most fake search engines. The malware attack that causes most Dietpuma.com redirects is a malicious JavaScript exploit which allows criminals to change how your web browser connects to the Internet.

One of the particular characteristics of Dietpuma.com-related malware infections is the fact that attacks have started to pop up in computer systems using the iOS operating system. Particularly, numerous attacks on iPads have been reported. A fact that is worrying because non-Windows operating systems are generally regarded as being practically immune to browser hijackers and other malware infections. This is clearly not the case and may spawn a wave of malware attacks targeting non-Windows operating systems.

An Overview of a Dietpuma.com-Related Malware Infection

The Dietpuma.com website and its clones (Creditpuma.com, CarPuma.com and Insurancepuma.com) are not particularly dangerous. In fact, Dietpuma.com is pretty bare, with nothing more than a picture of a badly-drawn puma wearing a green T-shirt and the not-terribly-creative title 'Super Search'. Victims of Dietpuma.com-related browser hijackers have reported symptoms remarkably similar to the Google Redirect Virus, without actually consisting of a systemic Trojan infection like is the case with the latter. Typically, an infected web browser will have its search results altered; that is, the links will be changed to link to Dietpuma.com instead of to the correct website.

Inexperienced computer users will often believe that these kinds of redirects are normal and will often go ahead and try their search again on Dietpuma.com, or on the fake search engine that pops up because of the browser hijacker on their computer. Doing this will do little more than inflating Dietpuma.com's and other fake search engines' traffic numbers, creating a profit for the criminals behind these waves of attacks. While several browser-hijacking Trojans have been known to direct computer users to Dietpuma.com, the bulk of these infections can be stopped by simply turning off JavaScript. Once the symptoms are gone, it is simply a matter of using a reliable anti-malware, or in the case of iPad users, reinstalling the operating system.
