Debtpuma.com is just one of a large batch of domains corresponding to a fake search engine that uses a cartoon puma as its logo and are labeled with the title 'Super Search.' These fake search engines have names like Insurancepuma.com, Creditpuma.com, or Loanpuma.com. The cartoon cat will often change outfits – in this particular version it wears what looks like a black leather jacket and is set on a green background. Regardless of the bogus search engine's domain name, Debtpuma.com is part of a well-known online scam that consists in using browser hijackers to force computer users to visit malicious websites repeatedly in order to inflate their traffic numbers and value artificially as well as generating advertising revenue illegally.

Although Debtpuma.com does not appear to be functional at this time, its search box should eventually lead to various shady links and advertisement spam rather than to results that are relevant. Debtpuma.com is not particularly dangerous in itself, especially since its fake search functions do not appear to be implemented as of the writing of this report. However, Debtpuma.com constitutes a threat to your computer system's integrity because of its close associations with various kinds of browser hijackers.

Debtpuma.com is Linked to a JavaScript Browser Hijacker that Can Infect iOS Systems

While redirects to the Debtpuma.com website can occur because of the common variety of browser hijacker (in the form of the Google Redirect Virus and a rootkit infection), there are reports of a JavaScript browser hijacker that also causes redirects to the Debtpuma.com website without infecting the victim's entire computer system. These kinds of infections have the capacity to infect non-Windows computer systems, in particular computers using the iOS operating system.

In fact, there have been various reports of iPad users infected with this threat. This kind of browser hijacker can be disabled by turning off JavaScript long enough to use an anti-malware application in order to remove Debtpuma.com definitely. The symptoms in both cases are remarkably similar, with the victim's search results on Google, Bing and Yahoo being altered to link to Debtpuma.com and other malicious websites instead of directing the computer user to the web page relevant to the search that was carried out. These reports are particularly worrying due to the fact that, traditionally, non-Windows computer systems have been regarded as being practically immune from malware infections.
