Threat Database Adware DaemonLogoffCompile

DaemonLogoffCompile

DaemonLogoffCompile aims to sneak its way onto users' Mac devices and then monetize its presence there via an intrusive ad campaign. As such, the application has been categorized as adware and due to the questionable distribution techniques it employs, it also is a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program).

While PUPs are not considered to be threatening and cannot cause direct harm to the systems they are installed on that doesn't mean that there are no risks associated with them. Adware applications are designed to deliver numerous annoying and misleading advertisements. Typically, advertisements associated with such unproven sources promote various hoax websites, fake giveaways, shady adult-oriented platforms, and other similarly questionable destinations. Users also may be presented with seemingly enticing offers for applications that turn out to be more intrusive PUPs upon installation.

Users also should be concerned about the possibility of the PUP spying on their browsing activities. This is a common functionality found in numerous adware and browser hijacker applications. They access the entire browsing and search histories and transmit them to their operators. However, some PUPs could attempt to extract far more sensitive and confidential information from the device and the user's Web browsers. Indeed, some PUPs are capable of siphoning autofill information, which usually contains banking data, account credentials, payment details and more.
