Convuster

Convuster is an adware application that is targeting Mac users. Like most applications of this type, Convuster is rarely downloaded willingly by users. Instead, it relies on manipulative and deceptive distribution tactics that mask its installation process from the attention of the user. The two most popular methods employed by PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) such as Convuster are bundling and hiding inside a fake software installer/updater.

Upon securing its presence on the user's Mac system, Convuster will waste no time in starting to monetize its presence. Adware applications are known for running intrusive advertising campaigns that could severely diminish the user experience on the affected device. The displayed ads could take numerous forms - pop-up windows, banners, surveys, etc., and could start to overlay the legitimate content viewed by the user. Not to mention that clicking on any of the ads could represent a serious security issue as the user could be taken to dubious or outright compromised third-party websites.

Having PUPs present on your system is considered a security risk and as such, it should be dealt with as soon as possible. Many PUPs establish persistence algorithms on the system, which makes manual removal much more difficult. The easiest way to clean your device is to conduct a thorough scan with a reputable anti-malware product and then remove all detected items.
